Posted • July 18, 2024: Air Force veteran drowns in the shallow end of a Las Vegas pool after struggling to swim for around 25 minutes as others walk past her. Leticia Gonzales Triplett, 58, died on February 4 in the North Decatur Las Vegas Athletic Club’s (LVAC) swimming pool. Several people walked alongside her and into the pool where she was fighting for her life. She was motionless and face-down in the pool for about 10 minutes after struggling to swim for around 25 minutes. It is unclear if Triplett called for help during her struggle, as other swimmers appeared unaware of her distress. Oganna Brown, an attorney for LVAC, said that Triplett's death was due to a 'cardiac arrest.' Triplett enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Las Cruces High School in New Mexico and 'loved' the military throughout her 24 years of service. She carried out a tour of Afghanistan in 2008, and 'received many medals and ribbons for her outstanding service' the obituary said.
