Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez Plans to Resign After Bribery Conviction

Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) reportedly plans to resign from Congress following his conviction on all counts in a federal corruption trial, according to an NBC News report.

Despite previous defiance amid calls from Senate Democratic leaders like Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin, who urged him to step down for the sake of his constituents and the Senate, Menendez has indicated he will soon resign.

If he does so, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) would appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of Menendez’s term.

In the upcoming race to fill the seat, Democratic Representative Andy Kim and Republican nominee Curtis Bashaw are contenders, Brietbart News has reported.
