TRULY SPECTACULAR WHITE SAND PRIVATE BEACH RIVER SHORELINE CAMPSITE IN IDAHO!

I did this on July 11, 2024. Grandjean Campground is an absolutely spectacular Campground located on the West of Sawtooth Wilderness. It has 31 Campsites, all First Come, First Served. It has a few Campsites up against the South Fork Payette River, particularly Campsite #11, clearly the BEST CAMPSITE at the entire Campground with its own white sand private beach right at the intersection of South Fork Payette River & Trail Creek! This Campground makes a great base camp for West side access to Sawtooth Wilderness, with very long hike to Sawtooth Lake & Goat Lake, arguably the best Alpine Lakes in the entire State of Idaho (although those Lakes are more easily accessed from the East). There is also a great hike along the South Fork Payette River with some Baron Creek access, and several other high quality Wilderness Trails.

As far as road conditions, probably the worst part of it (although totally worth the roll of the dice in my humble opinion) is the 18 or so minute investment (one-way) to drive down the bumpy road to see if the First Come, First Served Campsites are taken or not. The road is pretty bumpy, but any car should be able to do it if driven slowly and cautiously, although do so at your own risk!

In my humble opinion, the Sawtooth Wilderness Area is easily a Top 10, perhaps arguably a Top 5 in the US for Wilderness Adventure Hiking through a pristine Alpine Wonderland, this area is EPIC!
