Donald Trump named as Republican nominee days after assassination attempt with JD Vance for VP
Donald Trump is officially the Republican Party nominee but skips RNC roll call just two days after assassination attempt
More than 2,000 Republican delegates from across the country descended on Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum to officially nominate Trump, who was notably absent following an assassination attempt.
Eric Trump beamed with pride as he had the honor of announcing the delegates that officially made his dad Donald the Republican Party's presidential nominee.
He was joined by his wife, Lara Trump, and brother, Donald Jr., as he announced that 125 delegates from Florida nominated "the greatest president that's ever lived."
"[We] hereby declare him the Republican nominee for President of the United States of America."
Supporters say they're looking for a landslide victory in November as Trump takes on bitter rival President Joe Biden.
The news comes right after the former president selected his running mate.
Trump's shortlist of vice president candidates included Ohio Senator JD Vance and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum were informed minutes before the roll call that neither would be Trump's running mate.
Ultimately, Trump unmasked Vance as his running mate.
"After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio," Trump revealed on his social media platform Truth Social.
"J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association, J.D.'s book, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country.
"J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond."
Unlike Trump, Vance was present at the RNC along with his fellow GOP constituents.
Vance took the stage, receiving a massive cheer that brought the entire crowd to their feet.
