Agarwood, also known as oud, aloeswood, or gharuwood, is a highly valuable and fragrant heartwood that forms in Aquilaria and Gyrinops trees when they become infected with a specific type of mold (Phialophora parasitica). This infection prompts the tree to produce a dark, aromatic resin in response to the infection, resulting in the formation of agarwood.
