Protesters gather at GOP convention to rally for abortion and immigrant rights, end to war in Gaza

Hundreds of activists gathered in a downtown Milwaukee park on Monday to prepare for a day of protests outside the Republican National Convention, stating that the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump would not alter their plans.

Various organizations and demonstrators assembled near the Fiserv Forum to listen to speakers and gear up for a street march in the early afternoon.

The Coalition to March on the RNC, mainly comprising local groups, was protesting for abortion rights, immigrant rights, and against the war in Gaza, among other issues.

Activists carried signs with messages like “Stand with Palestine,” “We Can No Longer Afford the Rich,” and “Defend and Expand Immigrant Rights.”

Despite the assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening, organizers confirmed the rally would proceed. “We’re going to continue with the march as we planned,” said Omar Flores, a coalition spokesman. “The shooting has nothing to do with us.”

Trump reported that a bullet grazed his ear during the incident, with images showing blood from a head wound, the Associated Press has reported.
