Isn’t the Biblical Account “Good” Enough?

A favorite pastime for some popular teachers today is to find new and exciting biblical “insights” to share with others. These “new discoveries” can quickly take on their own life and grow unchecked and unchallenged. Perhaps Luke’s birth narrative is a bit stale and mundane, and adding something Dr. Wave Nunnally refers to as “Modern Midrash: The Myth of Migdal Eder” to the sermon for the Christmas service where the “swaddling” cloth could be some super special garment that prophetically identified the messiah. It isn’t true, but it seems to spice up the story.
