Former US President Donald Trump was evacuated to a safe space after an assassination attempt was made targeting him and gunshots were fired in the crowd during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Sunday.

According to a White House spokesperson, the suspect and at least one attendee were killed, while two others were injured. Trump was visibly bleeding from his right ear as he was removed from the stage. He later stated he was "fine" and undergoing a check-up, recounting the moment he realized something was wrong as a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) taking lead in the investigation said, "The FBI has assumed the role of the lead federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred earlier today in Butler, Pennsylvania."

Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump, thanked law enforcement and emergency personnel for their quick response. The Secret Service, represented by Anthony Guglielmi, confirmed the incident and stated it is now an active investigation, with Trump being safe.

The gunman who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump has been identified by FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a local of Pennsylvania.
