Yellowstone National Park’s thermal features can pose dangers beyond wildlife, as demonstrated by a recent incident where a car with five occupants accidentally drove into the Semi-Centennial Geyser.

The vehicle was submerged in about 9 feet of hot water, but all passengers escaped and were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The park service closed the road for two hours to retrieve the car, and the incident is under investigation.

The Semi-Centennial Geyser has surface temperatures around 105°F (40.5°C) and is one of over 10,000 hydrothermal features in the park, CNN has reported.
