An Israeli military official said the IDF is still verifying the result of its attack on Gaza’s al-Mawasi that it claimed targeted Mohammed Deif and another senior Hamas official. Mohammed Deif is the head of Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, the largest and best-organised armed group in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli military official said he could not confirm the casualty figures given by Palestinian health officials. Hamas has refuted Israeli claims that the airstrike targeted leaders of the group.
Hamas also said that the attack shows that Israeli Prime Minister wants to ignore any attempts at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.
At least 71 people were killed and 289 wounded in the attack, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza. The IDF released a before-and-after image of the site at al-Mawasi which was targeted by the airstrike. The IDF then released another image claiming it showed a fenced-off Hamas compound in the area.
