Americans who’ve been taught our history know the founders of our country called on God frequently to guide them and even the soldiers fighting under George Washington carried a flag titled an appeal to heaven into battle. Throughout our history, Americans have believed the nation was founded by divine providence and God has had his hand on this great gift of liberty to humankind. That is why yesterday, Tennessee began a statewide month of prayer. The state passed a bill called HJR803 this spring. The house joint resolution calls on those who are physically able and spiritually inclined to do so to join in a 30 day season of prayer and intermittent fasting for the month of July as a means of humbling ourselves to receive God's grace mercy and blessing in Tennessee and in our nation this document embodies a bipartisan recognition that the issues we are facing cannot be effectively addressed without the intervention in favor of our Lord.
