Israel-Hamas war: Netanyahu's new demand holds up ceasefire, Israeli media says | LiveNOW from FOX

A senior official told Israeli media that Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a new demand that is holding up a ceasefire and hostage release deal. The report states that Netanyahu is insisting on the establishment of a mechanism to prevent armed Hamas fighters from returning to northern Gaza.

The report comes as Mohammed Deif, the top military commander of Hamas was targeted in an Israeli strike in al-Mawasi, leaving some wondering if that could also have an impact on peace talks. FOX News' Trey Yingst reporting that a battle assessment was underway Saturday to determine if the terrorist leader was killed in the strike.

Deif was considered to be one of the top four most wanted terrorists within the Hamas terror group.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it conducted the strike when the targets were in an open area, but that the targets had been hiding among civilians, likely using them as human shields, as has been the case for months.

Negotiations continue between Israel and Hamas regarding a possible ceasefire and hostage release deal. President Biden said Thursday that both sides have agreed to the "framework" of a deal.

The Israel-Hamas war began back on Oct. 7 when Hamas terrorists launched an unprecedented attack on Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages. #israel #hamas #war #israelhamaswar #livefromfox #foxnews #breakingnews #topstories #politicalnews #globalnews #worldaffairs #newsalert #republicans #biden #trumptrain #israel #freepalestine #trump #news
