Howdy. Would you like to see the oldest photographs ever taken of Vatican City, dating back as early as the 1840s? Today we will browse over two hundred unique photographs of the Vatican, including over one hundred Stereoscope, or Old World 3-D, photographs.

This is the deepest dive I’ve ever seen online showcasing the first photographs of The Vatican before the year 1900, and these images were found throughout an assortment of museums, private collections, forums, and history books, many being shared here on YouTube for the first time.

For the amount of importance placed upon Vatican City in the context of World History, it is remarkable that we have not had more access to the architectural history which became so quintessential to Rome.

Furthermore, the area Vatican City sits on top of has had a variety of unique structures which once graced these illustrious grounds, including the Vatican Pyramid, The Circus of Nero, and before that many altars dedicated to pagan deities. From the beginning of Rome, Vatican Hill has been associated with the Etruscans and Phrygians, both of whom have had a rather impactful role on the larger European History.

We will cover all this in today’s video, plus much more. The meat and potatoes of this video would be the cornucopia of rare photographs of Vatican City, as well as the historical documents to support them. Enjoy, and leave your thoughts down below!
