Oakland Mayor and her boyfriend directly named in FBI probe of corrupt campaign allegations

A federal grand jury’s investigation into Oakland politics thickened this week when the city attorney was ordered to hand over a mountain of documents.

The order is detailed in a subpoena sent by United States Attorney Ismail Ramsey to Oakland City Attorney Barbara Parker. The subpoena is dated June 26, just six days after FBI agents raided Mayor Sheng Thao’s home on Maiden Lane.

Investigators are demanding documents and communication records tied to Mayor Thao; Thao’s longtime boyfriend, Andre Jones; several members of the Duong family, and multiple city agencies.

The Duong family owns the city’s recycling company, California Waste Solutions. In the subpoena, investigators specifically name the company’s CEO, David Duong, and his son, Andy Duong.
