Oakley - electric clippers - 12 July 2024

Oakley's owner did a fabulous job of acclimating Oakley to getting his bridle path clipped with the electric clippers. But ran into a LOT of resistive refusal when it came to getting the clippers near his ears.

This is my second session using the electric clippers on Oakley. And by the end of this session with Oakley on Stand-Stay I pasture clip both ears with Oakley being cooperative. I got Oakley willing to have his ears pasture trimmed by using the advance and retreat method to help Oakley reason out that the relax and cooperate response was the best choice. You will see my mare Avi standing nearby. Prior to working with Oakley I had trimmed her bridle path with Oakley watching. Horses can and do learn from the example of other horses. Letting your horse watch a horse setting a good example is wise. Keeping your horse from watching a bad example is also wise.

Training horses always involves some risk of injury (or even death) to the horse, the trainer, any spectators, equipment used, etc. - this risk is totally your own as you will be making your own judgements on what to do. As with any suggestions on any subject you must weigh them out for yourself and proceed accordingly - at your own risk.

Remember to intentionally, on purpose, learn of God each day by prayerfully reading, studying, and pondering upon God's word each day. Talk to God in prayer as your Heavenly Father who would like for you to be His friend. Find out what He would like you to do for Him as His friend and go and do it for Him as His friend.
