U.S. grocery stores get ammunition vending machines

When you make a grocery list, do you use bullet points? Well, now you can choose to take that literally. In the most ‘Murica move you’ll see all year, grocery stores in Alabama, Oklahoma and, of course, Texas have started a trial of ammunition vending machines. American Rounds, the company behind the vending machines, say ‘we are very pro-Second Amendment, but we are for responsible gun ownership.’

To that end, the machines have strict ID requirements: facial ID must be inserted into the machine, and facial recognition cameras will determine whether the user has a right to bear arms. Only then will a delightfully packaged box of ammunition be spat out of the bottom of the machine. American Rounds say this tech makes their vending machines more secure than online shopping, but many people aren’t so sure. Already, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at least one of the machines has been removed after the local council questioned whether it was legal, although the grocery store in question said they removed it due to lack of sales.

The CEO, Grant Magers, also said ‘we hope we’re improving the environment for the community.’ Presumably he doesn’t mean by shooting it, but you never know.
