Gethsemane – the Cup of Wrath
115
For the world [inhabitants of earth] (John 3:16), and literally for the Ecclesia/Ekklesia, Jesus drank the cup of God’s wrath to extend the cup of God’s fellowship. Following Christ may include suffering, but not wrath. We are not subject to his wrath – discipline and love, but not wrath. We are promised eternal fellowship in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. Jesus says that the cup symbolized the “New Covenant in My blood.” (Luke 22:20)
