Soaring heat returned to Houston on Tuesday, worsening conditions for millions without power after Hurricane Beryl hit Texas.

Residents struggled to find places to cool off and refuel, as extended outages strained the city.

Frustration grew over Houston’s inability to withstand a storm less powerful than previous ones, prompting questions about the preparedness of the city’s power utility.

Texas’ lieutenant governor announced that a sports and event complex would temporarily house up to 250 patients awaiting discharge from hospitals, as many homes remained without power nearly 36 hours after the storm, the Associated Press has reported.
