They danced to death! A bizarre and terrifying phenomenon unfolds in Strasbourg. The year is 1518 and a women steps out of her home, and suddenly her feet begin to move…against her will, twisting, turning, tapping…she dances uncontrollably. As hours turn to days, she does not stop. Her feet bleed, her body weakens, but still, she dances. Then, it spreads like wildfire, dozens, then hundreds of men, women and children all compelled by the same urge dance. Day and night for days then weeks they cannot stop. Some collapse, some die from exhaustion, heart attacks or strokes. Was this a case of mass hysteria, a curse, or something even more sinister? This unexplained mystery is the Dancing Plague of 1518.
