It links up the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Whereas once you had to open and close 44 lock gates, you can now move from one canal to the other in only 5 minutes!
The Falkirk Wheel is part of a nationwide passion project to revitalise Scotland's canals. Located on the site of a former tar works, the area has been transformed and now welcomes visitors from around the world.
It's a unique fusion of art and engineering, embracing modern tech. with ancient principles.
