The manufacturing industry has seen a surge in investment and construction in 2024, with some sources reporting record-breaking numbers. As of February 2024, annual investment in new facilities was nearly $225 billion, which is more than double the amount in 2020 and 2021.
January: Six new factories opened, including a $1 billion lithium refinery in Oklahoma. Other companies opening facilities included Tyson Foods and Sailun Tire.
February: New plants included a lithium-ion cell giga factory in South Carolina, an expansion of a shipyard in Alabama, and a relocation of headquarters and production to North Carolina.
June: 164 new manufacturing projects were announced
