Japan and Philippines Sign Defense Pact for Troop Deployment, Joint Military Exercises

07/08/2024 Japan and the Philippines signed a reciprocal access defense agreement on July 8, allowing the deployment of troops and joint military exercises in each other's territory. The agreement will simplify entry procedures for foreign personnel and equipment to facilitate joint combat training. In addition, Japan has agreed to provide the Philippines with coastal surveillance radars to help enhance the partner country's deterrence capabilities.
