Is the sun causing skin cancer?

The sun has been around the entirety of human existence.

Skin cancer is only an issue recently

Also the highest skin cancer rates are in areas with the lowest sun exposure

So what does this mean?

What has changed in the last 100 years that could explain the rise in skin cancer?

Perhaps a diet high in seed oils and coating our skin with toxic chemicals is not the best idea?
