House Republican Leaders Hold News Conference

House Republican leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), held a news conference on their legislative agenda. They said the bills they were considering that week were Rep. Chip Roy’s (R-TX) Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act and Rep. Mary Miller’s (R-IL) legislation that would reverse the Biden administration’s Title IX rule on transgender rights. Moreover, amid questions surrounding President Biden’s age, Speaker Johnson said he would consider invoking 25th amendment powers to oust President Biden if he were in the Cabinet, but conceded only the vice president has the authority to do this. Finally, members voiced enthusiasm for the upcoming Republican National Convention in Milwaukee to officially nominate Donald Trump as the party’s presidential nominee.
