Tiny Golfer Gets Surprised By His Own Power
While many see golf as an uptight and stuffy sport that only bougie people with money play, I have to admit I always get some joy out of little kids learning to play the game. There’s something about them trying to swing the clubs and hit the tiny ball that just seems so adorable and funny. Of course, personally, I find any kid learning to play any sport to be a very cute and hilarious visual.
We have discussed the origins of golf before and how it technically did not originate in Scotland, though they attempt to claim that distinction all the time. However, the modern game, what we know as golf today, did come from Scotland. Though strangely the first recorded mention of the sport comes from the Scottish King James II banning the sport in 1457. However, a later King James (IV, if you’re curious) lifted the ban in 1502 because he wanted to play golf. We all know that the Old Course at St. Andrews is one of the oldest courses in the world, but did you know that it was started in 1574 and originally came with 22 holes.
That standard didn’t change until 1764 when it was reduced to the more modern 18 holes. There is a course that is considered oldest though. That course is Musselburgh Links in East Lothian Scotland. Though our understanding is that the record has gone back and forth between St. Andrews and Musselburgh over the years. Musselburgh Links still exists and you can play golf there. It is a sport with a long fascinating history that continues to this day.
