THE BEST MAN by Richard Peck

This book, written for 9 to 12 year olds, finds the protagonist appointed best man for a marriage between his uncle and his favorite art teacher, Mr. Mcleod. Not only does this book, found in elementary school libraries, introduce sexual concepts such as homosexuality to prepubescent children, it also attempts to instill the values of the lgbt community onto children without their parents knowledge or consent. I don’t want my children believing that a marriage can be anything but, between a man and a woman. I also don’t want my 9 to 12 year old children to have access to literature with any sexual concepts, be it homosexual or heterosexual, without my knowledge, consent, or involvement. If you disagree, you can purchase these types of books own your own and read them with your 9 to 12 year old child. Which is my point. The parent or guardian of the child should always have final say on the education and values instilled in their own children. Furthermore, any time resources and budget are devoted to these concepts that have nothing to do with scholastic proficiency, is time, resources, and money not spent on teaching our children reading, writing, math, science, and history. Which, last time I checked, was the sole reason for school in the first place.
