Episode 2305: Our Missionary Calling - Nightly Episode
“O my God, at the end of this day I thank You most heartily for all the graces I have received from You. I am sorry that I have not made better use of them. I am sorry for all the sins I have committed against You. Forgive me, O my God, and graciously protect me this night. Blessed Virgin Mary, my dear heavenly mother, take me under your protection. St. Joseph, my dear Guardian Angel, and all you saints in heaven, pray for me. Sweet Jesus, have pity on all poor sinners, and save them from hell. Have mercy on the suffering souls in purgatory. Amen”
Our Missionary Calling
Tonight we have a deeply enriching episode that looks into the graces bestowed through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, our missionary calling as baptized Christians, and the promise of peace from God.
Our discussion today will be anchored in three significant reflections. The first is from St. Jacinta, one of the visionaries of Fatima: The second is from Raoul Plus, S.J.,: Finally, we will reflect on the serene promise from Isaiah 32:18.
Graces Through the Immaculate Heart of Mary
St. Jacinta’s message, "Tell everybody that God grants graces through the Immaculate Heart of Mary," highlights the profound role of Mary in the distribution of divine graces. In the Catholic tradition, Mary is venerated as the Mother of God and the Mediatrix of all graces. Her Immaculate Heart is a symbol of her pure love for God and for humanity, and through her intercession, we receive abundant graces from God.
The apparitions at Fatima, where St. Jacinta received this message, emphasized the importance of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This devotion calls us to imitate Mary's virtues, particularly her humility, purity, and obedience to God's will. By consecrating ourselves to her Immaculate Heart, we open ourselves to the transformative power of God's grace working through her.
Mary’s role as a conduit of grace invites us to deepen our relationship with her, seeking her intercession in our daily lives. As we grow in our devotion to Mary, we become more receptive to the graces she dispenses, helping us to grow in holiness and to better fulfill our Christian vocation.
Our Missionary Calling
Raoul Plus, S.J.'s insight into our missionary calling is a powerful reminder of the responsibilities that come with our baptism: "That is the essential word: mission. Everyone who is baptized, if he understands the part he has to play, is a missionary. He may not be called upon to go to foreign lands; his apostolate may be destined only to affect his near neighbors. But he must understand that wherever he may happen to be, he has a function to perform there: he not only has to save himself, but he also has to sanctify and save his brethren." This missionary spirit is not limited to those who travel to distant lands but extends to every Christian, regardless of their circumstances.
The Catholic Church teaches that the laity have a vital role in the mission of the Church. This means living out our faith authentically and sharing the love of Christ with those around us.
Each of us has a unique mission field, whether it is within our families, workplaces, or communities. By living our faith with conviction and charity, we become beacons of Christ’s light to others. Our everyday actions, when performed with love and a spirit of service, contribute to the sanctification of the world.
The Promise of Peace
Isaiah 32:18 offers a beautiful vision of the peace that God promises to His people: "My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." This prophetic promise is fulfilled in the peace that Christ brings to our hearts and to the world.
The Catholic understanding of peace, or "shalom," is not merely the absence of conflict but a holistic sense of well-being and harmony that flows from our relationship with God. This peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and a sign of God's kingdom present among us.
In a world often marked by turmoil and uncertainty, this promise of peace is profoundly consoling. It reminds us that true peace is found in God alone and that, as His people, we are called to be instruments of His peace in the world. By trusting in God’s providence and living in accordance with His will, we can experience this peace even amid life's challenges.
Conclusion
As we conclude tonight's episode, let’s reflect on the powerful teachings we've explored. The graces granted through the Immaculate Heart of Mary invite us to deepen our devotion to her and to open our hearts to the transformative power of God's grace. Our missionary calling reminds us that we are all called to be witnesses to Christ, bringing His love and truth to those around us. And the promise of peace from Isaiah assures us that, in God, we find true and lasting peace.
Thank you for joining me tonight. I hope tonight discussion has inspired you to live out your faith with greater devotion, mission, and peace. Until next time, may God bless you and keep you in His grace.
Stay faithful, stay humble, and keep walking in the light of Christ.
