Hurricane Beryl hit southeast Texas, causing at least two deaths and leaving over two million people without power.

Initially a category one hurricane, Beryl was downgraded to a tropical storm after landfall on Monday morning.

The storm brought destructive winds, heavy rain, and life-threatening storm surges, prompting nearly 1,000 flight cancellations at Houston’s largest airport.

Officials warned residents not to underestimate the storm, which had already caused ten deaths in the Caribbean.

In Harris County, a 53-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman died due to downed power lines and fallen trees.

Police conducted water rescues in a Houston suburb as the storm continued to batter the area, the BBC. has reported.
