James gives more practical application in chapters 3 and 4. He starts with exhortation to tame the tongue and gives several analogies of small things directing or steering large things--how we can tame lots of things but cannot tame the tongue.
He talks about heavenly or righteous wisdom versus the demonic or earthly wisdom of the unbelieving world.
He talks about pride causing strife and that we are to draw close to God so He will draw close to us. We are to resist the devil.
He presents humility as the antidote for pride.
We are not to take the time given to us for granted--not to boast about tomorrow because we do not know what a day may bring forth
