Oakley - it is where you end that matters the most - send in and tail tug out 8 July 2024

Today, relative to sending in and tail tugging out of the horse trailer, Oakley "woke up on the uncooperative side of the bed" so to speak. He is a two year old horse - so basically in human terms he is much like a 15yr old teenager who is trying to figure out who is the boss - when he needs to obey - when it is okay just to do what he wants - and so on. So to be useful as a horse you need to choose to cooperate with humans - yes even if you woke up on the uncooperative side of the bed. About 45 minutes of working with Oakley to get him to the point of choosing to be cooperative occurred before this video begins. During those 45 minutes Oakley initially refused to go in to the trailer even being led - then got so he would lead in - and eventually changed his mind enough to start being sent in and starting to tail tug out. The point of this video is to emphasize staying the course calmly until you get the horse that started out uncooperatively to choose differently - to choose to be cooperative. For me they "prove" they have made the better choice of being cooperative by three times in a row calmly doing what they do know how to do - in this instance - load up calmly by the send in method when asked AND back out calmly by the tail tug method. I don't stop at one time doing it calmly correctly if they already know how to do it and have simply refused. I don't stop at twice. I insist they "show me" they have chosen cooperating over uncooperating by doing it correctly three times in a row - to the level of their current training. So the point here is that it doesn't matter where you start - it is where you end that matters most.

Training horses always involves some risk of injury (or even death) to the horse, the trainer, any spectators, equipment used, etc. - this risk is totally your own as you will be making your own judgements on what to do. As with any suggestions on any subject you must weigh them out for yourself and proceed accordingly - at your own risk.

Remember to intentionally, on purpose, learn of God each day by prayerfully reading, studying, and pondering upon God's word each day. Talk to God in prayer as your Heavenly Father who would like for you to be His friend. Find out what He would like you to do for Him as His friend and go and do it for Him as His friend. Yes very intentionally, very much on purpose, become the friend of God. And have a blessed day!!
