A prolonged heatwave across the U.S. has resulted in dangerously high temperatures, leading to a motorcyclist's death in Death Valley and affecting millions of people. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for approximately 36 million individuals, with numerous locations in the West and Pacific Northwest reaching or surpassing previous heat records. In Northern California, temperatures exceeded 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 C), with Redding recording a high of 119 degrees Fahrenheit (48.3 C). Phoenix experienced a new daily record for the warmest low temperature, not dropping below 92 degrees Fahrenheit (33.3 C), and Death Valley National Park recorded temperatures of 128 degrees Fahrenheit (53.3 C) on Saturday and Sunday, leading to a heat-related fatality and another person being hospitalized. Emergency medical helicopters were grounded due to the extreme heat.
