Behind the U.K. 2024 election numbers

A lot of people have picked up on the disconnect between votes and seats in the U.K.’s first past the post system, but few people have picked up on the really important statistics like the fact that all four main parties achieved fewer votes in 2024 compared to 2019 and collectively lost 8.5 million votes, or that Starmer is the least popular incoming prime minister in modern history. We also look at Reform’s role in propping up voter turnout. We put the 2024 result into long term historical perspective by comparing with election results from 1945 and set out the importance of supporting liberty minded parties and independent candidates in the ongoing struggle against state overreach.
