The greatest power entrusted to mankind is the will. It is a great power because it has the capability to not only affect a person's life but all those around them. The will, if not in union with God becomes His great rival.

When the Holy Spirit comes to live inside of us He must reign. One will must rule in power. But when the will of man is not in compliance with God's "good and perfect will," then only a dark path awaits them.

Jonah knew God's direct will and orders but willfully defied Him. He made a choice to flee from the Presence of God and board a ship headed in the opposite direction. Because of that, every man on that ship most likely thought they were going to die. One man's choice of the will affected everyone else's life negatively.

But when Jonah was cast out into the sea and swallowed by a fish, he repented of his defiance and the fish vomited him out on the dry land. God took him where he was to go in the first place by way of that fish.

It was a three day journey into Nineveh. But from the very first day the entire capitol of Assyria from the King to the lowest people and animals all fasted and repented.

Do you see the difference between obeying and defying the will of God? Your will determines choices that will always directly affect the lives of everyone one around you, either for the good or the bad, which will alter God's will in the lives of many.

Be careful to maintain your will to always conform to God's will. It has powerful present and eternal consequences not only for you but for all.

“Blessed are the single-hearted, for they shall enjoy much peace. If you refuse to be hurried and pressed, if you stay your soul on God, nothing can keep you from that clearness of spirit which is life and peace. In that stillness you will know what His will is.” ― Amy Carmichael
