According to a statement from Yellowstone National Park Public Affairs, there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The FBI, with support from National Park Service special agents, is leading the investigation.

The incident began Wednesday night when rangers responded to reports of a person with a firearm making threats.

Upon contacting the individual, an exchange of gunfire ensued, resulting in the shooter’s death. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Park Superintendent Cam Sholly commended the rangers involved, noting that while none were physically injured, support will be provided to them, Cowboy State Daily has reported.
