"From 1976 to 2013, I served in the Bundeswehr. In 2003, I refused to follow an unlawful command. While there are different perspectives, I do not share the view of the German government, which claims that states can make no mistakes. In my opinion, the killing of six million Jews and waging aggressive wars, even if state-ordered, are criminal acts.
The Bundeswehr was involved in Yugoslavia in 1999, Afghanistan in 2001, and Iraq in 2003. The war against Yugoslavia was a clear violation of international law, as admitted by Chancellor Schröder. The Iraq war in 2003 was based on lies.

I was ordered to ignore the law and break my oath, under threat of demotion or dismissal. Despite my refusal, I was demoted and sent to a psychiatric facility. The court ruled in my favor, but the Bundeswehr ignored the verdict.

This case highlights the difference between a democratic army, bound by law and order, and the Bundeswehr, which opposes democratic principles. There has been no apology or change in their behavior." - Florian D. Pfaff, former Bundeswehr Major
