The White House said on Wednesday (July 3) it was monitoring an incident in the South China Sea where Chinese officials reportedly boarded and then seized a Taiwanese fishing boat operating near China's coast close to a Taiwan-controlled island late Tuesday (July 2). White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at a press conference said the White House encourages "both sides to maintain open lines of communication so they can get to a resolution."
