In northern India, a tragic incident at a religious gathering resulted in over a hundred deaths, primarily women and children, marking one of the deadliest such events in recent Indian history.

The disaster occurred during a satsang in Mughal Garhi village, Uttar Pradesh, where overcrowding led to a stampede as devotees rushed to touch the feet of self-proclaimed godman Bhole Baba.

The unexpected turnout of over 250,000 people far exceeded the expected 80,000, overwhelming the limited security presence of just 40 policemen.

Authorities are investigating organizers for negligence and attempting to cover up the aftermath, which included dozens trampled and many fallen into an open sewer, CNN has reported.
