Ivy Square
The Bikan Historical Quarter, known for its white-walled buildings, is also a stage for industrial tourism. Kurashiki prospered as a domain town for cotton and rice distribution, but with the advent of the Meiji era, it underwent a revival through the spinning industry. Kurashiki Spinning Mill was established on the site of the former magistrate's office. Ivy Square, developed by redeveloping the main factory, has been transformed into a multifaceted cultural facility. The site, adorned with red bricks entwined with ivy, houses workshops where pottery can be experienced, hotels, and the Kurashiki Spinning Memorial Museum, which utilizes the original cotton warehouse from its founding days to convey the industrial history of that time to modern audiences.
