Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) was born near Warsaw Poland. He was a virtuoso pianist and comnposer who primarily composed works for the piano. He was considered one of the greatest Romantic era musicians.

His works evoke the lilting Romantic era focus on emotions and the individual. He composed 24 Preludes one in each of the major and minor keys. Each prelude is a short stand-alone composition that evokes
a particular emotion or thought. Ironically, preludes traditionally represented a musical work that introduced another musical work. Chopin's preludes were composed as stand-alone musical compositions
signifying a break with tradition.
