Sins of the Party: Democrats – The Slave Owners Party, is a collection of first-hand accounts of the political landscape around the question of owning slaves in America in the 1800’s. The tension between the Democrat Party (the Slave Owners Party) and the Republican Party (Abolitionists) is clearly seen in the compilation of writings from both sides of the aisle in the first half of the book. The second half of the book is the written account of a fugitive slave running from the horrors of his captivity. He speaks to us from the year 1847 while hiding in Boston, where, under the Fugitive Law Act he could be seized and sent back to his life of Slavery.
