A BBC radio presenter recently suggested that President Joe Biden should use the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling to assassinate his rival, Donald Trump, later deleting the post and claiming it was made in jest. Following the court’s decision on Monday, David Aaronovitch, host of BBC Radio 4's "Briefing Room," who has over 180K followers, wrote on X: “If I was Biden I’d hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America’s security #SCOTUS.” This comment sparked a backlash on social media, leading Aaronovitch to spend the next hour explaining that his remark was satirical. When one user accused him of suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome, Aaronovitch clarified that his post was referencing the Supreme Court ruling. Within an hour, he deleted the post, stating he was frustrated that people didn’t understand his “joke” about assassinating a former US president.

“There is now a far-right pile-on suggesting that my tweet about the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity is an incitement to violence when it’s plainly a satire. So I’m deleting it. If nothing else though it’s given me a map of some of the daftest people on this site,” Aaronovitch claimed, adding, “Note by the way that not one of them has a problem with the ruling itself.”

As of this writing, the BBC has not issued a statement addressing Aaronovitch’s post. His controversial remark came amid reactions from leftists on social media to SCOTUS’ decision, with some calling on Joe Biden to order an assassination on former President Donald Trump, arguing he’d be immune from prosecution if it was an “official” act.
