Nastasen

Nastasen lived, and ruled, roughly in the late 4th century BC. He was the last of the Nubian kings to be buried at Nuri. Although the capital during his reign was Barawe (Meroe), Nastasen was crowned at Napata, which was still an important religious center for the Nubians. Throughout his reign, Nastasen favored the priesthood of Napata, and made generous donations to him. His donations and war are listed in the Stela of Nastasen, which is where the bulk of information about him comes from. The record of Nastasen’s life is highly incomplete, to the degree that no one even knows when he was born, or exactly when it was he reigned. His tomb is known, however, and (at the time of this recording) excavation efforts are ongoing. His tomb was not looted, but it was flooded with water due to damming along the Nile River, which has caused the water table to rise. As a result, many of the artifacts have been damaged or destroyed by the water.
