True Freedom

This week we will celebrate our independence and freedom as a nation. That freedom was gained at great expense by 56 courageous men who signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776, in the city of Philadelphia. Of the 56, five were captured by the British and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes sacked, looted or burned. Two lost their sons in the army. One had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 died in the war from bullets or hardship.
Freedom is a great thing to celebrate and that is why I enjoy the 4th of July so much!
Unfortunately, there are some in high levels of government who are undermining the foundations for freedom through their anti-Christian and anti-American policies. Sadly, many who celebrate their nations freedom are themselves not free at all! They are enslaved to sin: alcoholism, drug addiction, sexual addiction, lying, hot temper, stealing, gossip, overeating, smoking and materialism.
Jesus Christ, the greatest patriot of humanity, spoke of freedom in the biblical book of John. Turn in your bibles to John 8:32-44 and let’s discover what keeps us from truth and more importantly how we can experience true freedom.
