How to Stay Healthy On GLP-1 Medications: A Holistic Nutritionist’s Perspective
GLP-1 medications mimic the effects of the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1
This is a hormone we make naturally by the small intestines to regulate blood sugar and control appetite.
However, it can be affected by our diet.
If we fail to get enough fiber, healthy fats, and protein, it can start to affect hormone release.
This is when doctors may recommend taking GLP-1 drugs to help make up for it.
It may help with weight loss, but you want to avoid some other side effects, if at all possible, like muscle loss, vitamin deficiencies, gastroparesis, and weak bones.
