Where to Start Mixing

Mixing starts before recording and let me explain because I know many won't agree with me.
Let say for instants that you want to record you vocals.
So, then you need to know where to place your microphone, how to place your microphone to prevent or to cut out all the unwanted noise.
And that is the same thing that happens with an EQ.
You do the filtering and you cut out all the unwanted noise that you don't want with the vocals.
Now, the microphone we can even go further, we can take the volume knob and reduce the volume to prevent clipping, that is also mixing.
But I know most of us believe that mixing starts with EQ, compression, with the plugins and that is not so.
It only starts with the EQ and compression when you don't do recording, so this is where recording starts.
You have to filter out, get rid of the unwanted noise in your recording and not after, that is mixing.
