Posted • June 29, 2024: North Korea publicly executed a 22-year-old man for allegedly listening to South Korean K-pop. According to the 2024 Report on North Korean Human Rights by South Korea, the man was executed in 2022. The man reportedly listened to 70 South Korean songs, watched a few videos, and shared the material. The K-pop ban is to shield North Koreans against the "malign influence" of Western culture.
