DONALD TRUMP: LET ISRAEL FINISH OFF PALESTINIANS

On 27 June, presumptive* candidates from the major political parties for the November 2024 US elections, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, went head-to-head in their first televised debate.

To clarify, neither of these candidates means well or is good for Africans. While some have attempted to portray Trump as the anti-war candidate, during the debate, the former president showed that he is not any less of a warmonger. Trump not only made it clear that he will continue sending more money and weapons to Ukraine, but he went as far as labelling Biden a ‘Palestinian’ for apparently not sending ‘enough’ military aid to Israel to k*ll Palestinians at a faster rate.

What a big tell, considering that since October 2023, the Biden administration has given Israel at least $17 billion in military and other aid, enabling the settler-colonial state to k*ll nearly 38,000 Palestinians, primarily w-omen and children. Not to mention the US just provided another $3.8 billion in annual foreign military funding to Israel.

That means regardless of which direction the US election goes, people in the Global South will not be any safer.

*We say ‘presumptive’ because the official nominee for the Republican Party will be announced in July at their party convention, while Democrats will select a candidate during their convention held in August. Holding a debate this early is considered unprecedented.
