NO STATE HELP FOR KENYAN COP INJURED BY FAULTY KIT

Chief inspector David Maina was on duty during the anti-Finance Bill protest that took place on 18th June in the streets of Nairobi, Kenya. During running battles with mainly young demonstrators, he set off a teargas canister - but there was a delay, and it exploded in his hands, severely injuring him. He had to undergo a double amputation.

Maina is currently undergoing treatment in Nairobi. But to add insult to life-altering injury, the government he defended has failed to disburse billions earmarked for medical insurance for police officers like himself (as well as for prison officers, teachers and other state employees). It’s another indicator of how callous the Ruto administration has turned out to be.

We wish inspector Maina all the best on his difficult journey ahead.
