The TV duel of superlatives - it's beaten! For 100 minutes, President Joe Biden (81) and rival Donald Trump (78) stood only 2.4 meters apart in the CNN studio in Atlanta - the eyes of the nation on them.
The White House opponents want to use the opportunity in the battle of speeches to get from the previous head-to-head race to the road to victory. To achieve a preliminary decision!
Trump seems to have succeeded! Biden, on the other hand, seemed to have put an exclamation mark on the biggest issue of his presidency: his age.

Will Biden still be replaced?
Now it is clear: The Democrats are without candidates! Because officially he has not yet been nominated as a candidate by his party - and could not become one anymore.
Even the entry into the studio was a stark contrast: Biden appeared at a slow pace, a cautious wave. Then Trump: wide aisle, almost like on the way to a boxing ring.
There was no "handshake".
▶︎ The pressure on Biden was the greatest. After a series of aged appearances, America's oldest commander-in-chief wanted to convince his own party that he had what it takes to beat Trump. And the nation that he will hold out in the Oval Office for another four years.
He is unlikely to have convinced a few with the shaky stumbling performance. Biden's voice was shaky, hoarse, he swallowed many words. He also seemed over-prepared after seven days of cramming at Camp David, packing too many arguments into short speaking times. He got tangled up and sometimes just lost the thread, often couldn't find an end to a set.
Almost desperately, Biden took refuge in insults to his opponent, calling Trump a "whiner" and "lollipop".
▶︎ Trump had been warned before the debate to be more of a statesman than a steamroller. Nevertheless, he attacked head-on. The withdrawal from Afghanistan was the "most embarrassing moment in US history," he rumbled. The world laughs at America, which has degenerated into a "Third World country" under Biden. Trump: "What this man is doing is criminal!". He accused Biden of opening the borders and turning the US into a "rat's nest" full of "murderous migrants". Trump delivered blatant exaggerations - and conspiracy theories regarding the storming of the Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021.
