A New Jersey man, Edward Kang, 20, became so enraged during an online video game match that he flew to Florida overnight to assault his rival with a hammer, according to authorities.

Kang left from Newark Liberty International Airport, landed at Jacksonville International Airport, and booked a hotel room before attacking his victim at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Sheriff Bill Leeper of Nassau County, Florida, described the incident as bizarre and unbelievable.

Kang’s anger stemmed from a dispute in the multiplayer game ArcheAge.

He told his mother he was visiting a friend in Florida, checked into a hotel early Friday morning, and later bought a hammer and flashlight from a hardware store.

Dressed in black and wearing a mask and gloves, Kang broke into his rival’s house in Fernandina Beach and attacked him.

The victim’s stepfather was awakened by screams and found his stepson struggling with Kang, who was armed with a hammer, the New York Post has reported.
